The #1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team outscored Merrimack 10-4 in the second half to capture its 10th straight win yesterday evening. The Panthers are 10-0 while the Warriors fall to 9-3.
In a physical contest that included seven yellow cards, Adelphi trailed Merrimack 2-4 15 minutes into the first half. Freshman Rachel Ray tied the game on an unassisted shot in the 19th minute. The Warriors responded as Amanda Simeone scored her second goal on an assist from Alison Colarusso. Sophomore Caitlin Hilbert made it a 5-5 game on a feed from junior Diana Lopez with 7:49.
The second half was all Adelphi. Senior Dawn Anselmin tallied all of her three goals in the stanza. Senior Lisa Maggiotta's back-to-back goals in the 42nd minute made it a 9-6 contest. The Warriors managed three more goals but were unable to close the gap. Lopez, who also dished out three assists, netted the final goal with 6:56 remaining on an assist from junior Tara Grodotzke.
Junior Lauren Lopez and Ray had three goals a piece in the win.
Junior Allyson Murphy had six stops for Adelphi. Merrimack's Gina Sansone made 13 saves.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, April 23, hosting Bryant College at Stiles Field beginning at 12:00 noon.
