Women's Lacrosse Tops STAC, 21-9

Sparkill, N.Y. - A total of 11 different players scored for the #1 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team as they topped St. Thomas Aquinas, 21-9, on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 9-0 and 4-0 in the NYCAC.

Freshman Rachel Ray led with four goals and two assists. Juniors Diana and Lauren Lopez had three goals a piece, with Diana adding four assists in the effort. Senior Lisa Maggiotta also had three goals.

The Panthers outshot the Lady Spartans, 20-10 in the first half. Adelphi led 10-0 before STAC got on board in the 23rd minute with back-to-back goals. Sophomore Kristen Schreiner and senior Jessica Marra accounted for the final goals of the half to give Adelphi a 12-2 cushion.

STAC tallied four of its seven second half goals from free position shots, but it was not enough as Adelphi scored nine in the stanza. Senior Dawn Anselmin collected the first goal in an unassisted effort in the 32nd minute. Freshman Nicole Lein scored twice in the half including the final goal with less than a minute remaining.

Junior Allyson Murphy had five saves in 34:30 minutes of play and freshman Christina Kozakiewicz made four stops in the remaining 25:30 minutes.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, April 20, traveling to Merrimack College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
