Baseball Completes Sweep of Queens, 12-5

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team got four RBI from Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.), to complete a three-game series sweep of Queens. With the win the Panthers improve to 13-16 overall and 10-5 in the NYCAC, while the Knights fall to 4-13 on the season and 4-11 in conference.

Adelphi got a run scoring single from Nick Testani (Williston Park, N.Y.) and an RBI double from Rath in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Queens responded with a two-run second inning, thanks to two RBI singles, to knot the game at two.

After allowing a run in the top of the fourth, giving the Knights a 3-2 advantage the Panthers scored six runs on four hits and on error, including getting two more RBI from Rath to take a commanding 9-2 advantage on their way to a 12-5 win.

Bill Melillo (Glenwood Landings, N.Y.) pitched six innings, striking out four and allowing just two earned runs to pick up the win. Rinaldo Fable (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Frank Valeriano (Oceanside, N.Y.) combined to pitch three innings of one hit, one run relief.

The Panthers return to action Wednesday, April 19 when they travel to Sparkill, New York to take on NYCAC foe St. Thomas Aquinas.
