Softball Sweeps Bloomfield

Game One|Game Two

Bloomfield, N.J. - Freshman Samantha Johnston was 3-for-5 with two triples, four runs and two RBI as the Adelphi University softball team defeated Bloomfield College 11-0 and 4-3 this afternoon at Pulaski Field. The Panthers improve to 21-11 while the Deacons fall to 10-23.

Game One
Adelphi led from the beginning with help from five Bloomfield errors, rattling off five runs on three hits in the first inning. Johnston tripled to start the second inning, eventually coming home on a hit by Vogt. Junior Alana daSilva belted a two-run homer to make it a 8-0 game. Senior Amy Delmore accounted for the final run of the inning after reaching first on a single, she was helped around by three wild pitches. Johnston, along with sophomore Julie Schaper, accounted for the last two runs as the Panthers finished the Deacons in five innings.

Senior Carla Buonviaggio is credited with the win, allowing one hit, striking out six and walking three.

Adelphi had 11 runs on nine hits with no errors. Bloomfield had no runs on one hit with seven errors.

Game Two
After a quiet start, Bloomfield blasted a three-run homerun in the fourth inning to take the lead. The Panthers managed two runs with no hits in the sixth inning as sophomore Dely Francisco scored on a fielder's choice after reaching on a fielding error. Johnston, who walked to first, accounted for the second run on a fielder's choice. In the seventh inning with two outs, Johnston doubled, scoring Franciso and Delmore for the win.

Schaper allowed four hits, three runs, three earned, while striking out six and walking three.

Adelphi had four runs on five hits with no errors. Bloomfield had three runs on four hits with one error.

The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, April 18, hosting the University of Bridgeport in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
