Softball Splits With Merrimack

Game One|Game Two

North Andover, Mass. - The Adelphi University softball team took game one, 7-1, before falling 3-2 in game two in a non-conference doubleheader at Merrimack College. The Panthers fall to 19-11 while the Warriors are now 7-17.

Game One
Adelphi scored first with two runs coming in the second inning. Junior Kristina LoCastro tripled bringing home senior Amy Delmore who walked to first. Senior Carla Buonviaggio followed up with a double to drive home LoCastro. The Warriors tallied what would prove to be their only run of the game on a solo homerun to left field.

The Panthers rattled off three runs in the third inning to lead, 5-1. Freshman Jessica Vogt and sophomore Julie Schaper accounted for the final two RBI in the fifth and sixth innings as Adelphi cruised to a 7-1 victory.

Schaper recorded the win on the mound, allowing three hits, one run, one earned, while striking out seven and walking two.

Adelphi had seven runs on nine hits and no errors. Merrimack had one run on three hits with no errors.

Game Two
Merrimack jumped out to an early 2-0 lead through the third inning capitilizing on five hits off junior pitcher Sheila Feldman. The Panthers evened the score in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, LoCastro walked, forcing home freshman Diana DiPiano. Delmore picked up the second run as she advanced home on a wild pitch. The Warriors used three Panther errors to tally the final run and the win.

Feldman took the loss, allowing six hits, three runs, two earned, while striking out five and walking one.

Adelphi had two runs on five hits with three errors. Merrimack had three runs on six hits with no errors.

The Panthers continue their three-game roadstand as they travel to Bloomfield College on Friday, April 14, for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference douleheader.
