Baseball Falls To New Haven, 8-3

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi Baseball team out hit host New Haven, 13-9, but left 12 runners on base, scoring just three runs in an 8-3 conference loss to the Chargers. With the loss the Panthers fall to 10-15 overall and 7-5 in the NYCAC, while New Haven improves to 18-8 overall and 10-2 in the conference.

Ken Appel (Orange, CT) opened the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field and was driven in two batters later by Michael Moras (Orange, CT), giving New Haven a 1-0 edge. The Chargers tacked on three more runs, pushing their lead to 4-0 before Adelphi got on the board with two runs of their own in the top of fifth, to pull within two, 4-2. Nick Testani (Williston Park, N.Y.) and Pat O'Neill (Oakville, CT) were each credited with an RBI in the fifth.

New Haven responded with four runs of their own on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead 8-2. Ricky Nicholson (Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in Mike Colonna (Staten Island, N.Y.) in the top of the sixth, pulling Adelphi within five runs, 8-3, but that was as close as the Panthers would get.

Bill Melillo (Glenwood Landings, N.Y.) pitched 4.1 innings giving up eight runs, five earned, to pick up the loss. Bill Demarco (Turnersville, NJ) struck out eight over eight innings in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, April 14 when they host Pace at 1:00 pm.
