Game One/Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team used only two pitchers in picking up two wins over visiting C.W. Post. Chris Zinkiewicz (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Michael Myers (Wantagh, N.Y.) both pitched complete games to help Adelphi collect a 7-1 win in game one, and a tight 1-0 win in game two. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in the conference, while C.W. Post falls to 5-17-1 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Game One Adelphi and C.W. Post were scoreless through three and a half innings, when Joe Maranino (Bronx, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Nick Testani (Williston Park, N.Y.) from third to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Then in the bottom of the sixth Adelphi erupted, scoring five runs on five hits to take a commanding 6-0 lead through six innings. That was more then enough run support for Zinkiewicz, who pitched the full nine innings, walking one, striking out two and allowing one unearned run to collect his second win of the year.

Maranino was 1-2, with one run scored and four RBI in the first game, while Testani went 2-3 with three runs scored.

Game Two The second game was all about pitching as Adelphi and C.W. Post combined for just nine hits in six and a half innings of action. The Panthers entered the bottom of the fifth inning in a 0-0 tie, when Pat O'Neill (Oakville, CT) opened up play with a walk. Ricky Nicholson (Massapequa, N.Y.) moved the runner to third with a single to right field and Thomas Cali (Shirley, N.Y.) drove the runner home, giving Adelphi a 1-0 lead.

From there Myers took over, giving up just one hit in the last two innings to secure the win. For the game, Myers pitched seven innings, allowed just three hits and struck out one, picking up his first win of the season.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, April 2 when they travel to Brookville, New York to close out their three game set with C.W. Post.
