#4 Men's Lacrosse Tops St. Andrews, 14-6

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse team blitzed visiting St. Andrews, 4-0 in the opening quarter on their way to a 14-6 non-conference win. With the win, the fourth ranked Panthers improve to 2-0, while St. Andrews falls to 1-3 on the season.

Adelphi took an early 1-0 lead when Dale Pescitelli (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored two minutes into action. Just over six minutes later Andrew Ashkenazy (Oceanside, N.Y.) found the net twice, giving the Panthers a 3-0 edge with 3:39 to play in the quarter. Brendan Morgan (Bayside, N.Y.) followed that up with a goal of his own with just 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter, giving the Panthers a 4-0 advantage after just one period.

The goals kept coming as Adelphi reeled off three more, two from Wes Green (Adelaide, Australia) and one from Stephen Mortimer (Adelaide, Australia) before the Knights could respond. Jonathan St. Jules (Brooklyn, N.Y.) slipped one into the St. Andrews net two minutes before the half to five the Panthers a commanding 8-1 lead at the half.

Adelphi put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring St. Andrews 6-1 in the period, including three more goals from Green, to enter the fourth quarter with a 14-2 bulge. The Knights would rally in the fourth, outscoring the host Panthers 4-0, but ran out of time, falling 14-6.

The Panthers held the edge in every major category including shots (45-31), ground balls (60-43) and clears (33-31). Brian Volpi (St. Lawrence, N.Y.) picked up eight saves and his second win of the season, while Nate Hull made eight stops in the loss.

Adelphi returns to the field on Saturday, March 11 when they play host to visiting LeMoyne College at 1:00 pm.
