Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi baseball team held a 5-4 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning, but visiting Kutztown scored one run in each of the last three innings to squeak out a 7-5 win. With the loss, Adelphi falls to 4-13 on the season, while the Golden Bears improve to 16-7.
Through two and a half innings, Kutztown had eight base runners and four hits, but only led 3-0. In the bottom of the third, the Panthers loaded the bases for Stephen Malvagna (East Meadow, N.Y.), who stroked a two-run single, pulling Adelphi within one run, 3-2.
The Panthers knotted the game at three in the bottom of the fourth and then took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Malvagna, followed by a Mike Connors (Babylon, N.Y.) RBI double.
Unfortunately, Adelphi could not keep Kutztown off the board, as the Golden Bears scored one run in each of the last four innings to steal a 7-5 win.
Chris Lewandowski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was credited with the loss, while Kevin Morganti (Reading, PA) recorded the win and Mike McCardell (West Chester, PA) pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up the save.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 1 when they play host to C.W. Post at noon.
