The Adelphi baseball team posted 10 hits, but left 15 runners stranded on base, while visiting Dominican collected out 13 hits and put nine runs on the board to steal a 9-3 win from the Panthers. With the loss, Adelphi falls to 3-9 overall, while Dominican improves to 11-8 on the season.
Michael Myers (Wantagh, N.Y.) opened the game on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings, before Dominican got rolling. Jose Made (Binghamton, N.Y.) opened the third inning with a double to right and then gave Dominican a 1-0 lead on an Eliezer Nunez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) single. The Chargers pushed their lead to 2-0 Jose Escalera (Bronx, N.Y.) singled to center, driving in Nunez.
Dominican tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth, getting three hits off of Rinaldo Fable (Franklin Square, N.Y.), to take a 4-0 lead. The Panthers finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Mike Colonna (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled in Stephen Malvagna (East Meadow, N.Y.), pulling Adelphi within three runs, 4-1.
The Chargers exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth, breaking the game wide open and taking a 9-1 lead. The Panthers battled back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs on three hits, including a double to left field by Billy Neubauer (Farmingville, N.Y.), but could not get any closer then 9-3.
Myers was credited with the loss, going three innings, striking out two and giving up two runs. Armando Tavarez (Bronx, N.Y.) picked up the win for Dominican, throwing seven innings, allowing just three runs and striking out eight.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 25 when they travel to Bridgeport, Connecticut to take on Bridgeport University in their NYCAC opener.
