The Adelphi baseball team out hit host Lynn University, 9-5, but left eight men on base, falling to the Fighting Knights, 4-3. With the loss Adelphi falls to 3-6 on the season, while Lynn improves to 21-6 overall.
Bobby Lanigan (Staten Island, N.Y.) held Lynn scoreless through the first three innings and gave up just two runs in five innings of work. Lanigan left the game in the sixth with Lynn ahead 2-0. The Panthers got one run back in the top of the seventh when Doug Anderson (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) knocked in Stephen Malvagna (East Meadow, N.Y.).
The Fighting Knights answered back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to push their lead to 4-1. Adelphi battled back again, pulling to within one, 4-3, on a Malvagna single that scored Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Bobby Calca (Elmont, N.Y.). However, that was as close as the Panthers could get.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, March 23, when they take on Dominican College in their home opener at 3:00 pm in Garden City, New York.
