The Adelphi baseball team scored six runs on eight hits against host Barry University, but where undone by five errors in a 13-6 loss. With the loss the Panthers fall to 1-5 overall, while Barry improves to 18-7 on the season.
The Panthers took an early, 2-0 lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a Bobby Calca (Elmont, N.Y.) single that drove in Thomas Cali (Shirley, N.Y.) and a Bill Melillo (Glenwood Landings, N.Y.) sac fly that scored Doug Anderson (Oyster Bay, N.Y.).
However things went south for Adelphi in the bottom of the first. Adelphi gave up six runs on four hits, committing one error to fall behind 6-2. The Panthers got one run back in the top of the second, but gave up four more runs in the bottom of the inning on two hits and two errors, to trail 10-3 after just two innings of play.
Chris Zinkiewicz (Massapequa, N.Y.) was credited with the loss, after giving up eight runs, seven of which were unearned, in just over one inning of work.
Adelphi returns to action on March 17 when they take on Bloomfield College at 1:00 pm.
