The Adelphi women's lacrosse team blitzed visiting Philadelphia University for 12 goals in the first half, including scoring five in the first 10 minutes of action to win their third straight game, 18-3. With the win the second ranked Panthers improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NYCAC, while Philadelphia falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Lisa Maggiotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) opened the scoring for Adelphi just 2:40 into the game when she found the back of the Lady Ram net off of an assist from Meghan Blume (Bel Air, MD). Less then a minute later Rachael Ray (Rocky Point, N.Y.) scored to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Blume and Ray kept the Panther attack rolling, scoring Adelphi's next to goals to give the Panthers a 4-0 edge with 22:47 remaining in the first half. Adelphi notched two more goals, one from both Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.), before Allison Kessler put Philadelphia got on the board, making the score 6-1.
Adelphi continued to cruise from there adding six more goals in the first half to enter the intermission with an advantage of 12-2. The second half was more of the same as the Panthers outscored Philadelphia, 6-1, making the final margin of victory 18-3.
Allison Murphy (Williston Park, N.Y.) collected five saves and the win for Adelphi, while Elizabeth Hulfish made six saves, several at point blank range, in the loss.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, March 19 when they play host to St. Anselm at noon on Stiles Field.
