No.3 Adelphi Upset By No.6 C.W. Post in Playoffs

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team saw its post-season journey cut short with a 60-51 loss to C.W. Post in the first round of the NYCAC Tournament. The Panthers finish their season 15-13 record. The Lady Pioneers (12-16) advance to the semi-finals to face the winner of the Molloy/Bridgeport match-up.

Senior Carlyshia Hurdle led all scorers with 14 points. Sophomores Mary Lepore and Gianna Smith had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Panthers held a slim advantage through the first eight minutes of play. The Lady Pioneers took a 14-12 lead on a three-pointer by Alex Williams at 12:22. The Panthers struggled on the boards, pulling down just 12 rebounds, compared with 25 for the Lady Pioneers. Adelphi trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half and found themselves behind 31-21 at intermission.

Post realized its largest lead of the night, 37-21, in the opening minutes of the second half. The Panthers outscored the Lady Pioneers 19-3 over the next eight minutes to close to within four points, 44-40. Twice Adelphi closed to within two points, but Post, despite a dizzying 33 turnovers, kept the #3 seed at bay, holding on for the win, 60-51.

Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, combining for just 3-of-14. Adelphi shot 34.5 percent from the field, while Post connected for 48.6 percent of its attempts.

C.W. Post was led by both Williams and Basimah Thompson with 12 points and four rebounds apiece. Erica Bell had 11 points.
