Women's Basketball Falls to C.W. Post, 57-52

Brookville, N.Y. - Sophomore Gianna Smith led Adelphi with 15 points and 13 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Panthers suffered a 57-52 loss to conference foe C.W. Post on Thursday night. Adelphi falls to 12-10 and 11-4 in the NYCAC while Post improves to 7-15 and 6-9.

Senior Carlyshia Hurdle and sophomore Mary Lepore each contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.

In a messy game which saw both teams combine 67 turnovers, the Panthers trailed 18-25 at the end of the first half. Adelphi struggled from the field, connecting on just 5-of-23 first half attempts including 1-for-5 from beyond the arc.

The Pioneers extended their lead to 14 points on two made free throws by Whitney Murrer at 13:18 in the second half. The Panthers rallied on a 12-5 run to close to within six, 44-38, with 7:56 remaining. Post pushed the lead back out to 11, 51-40, with 3:38 on the clock. Adelphi again closed the gap, this time to within three, 55-52, on a made three-pointer from junior Betty Mendieta with less than a minute to go.

The Pioneers were led by sophomore Basimah Thompson with 17 points. Erica Bell was the only other player in double figures with 12 points.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, February 11, at NYIT. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
