Men's Basketball Sinks Concordia, 76-55

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team held visiting Concordia to just 16 points on four field goals in the first half, building a 36-16 halftime lead on the way to a 76-55 win. With the win the Panthers extended their win streak to a region best 14 games, while improving to 22-4 overall and 18-1 in NYCAC action. With the loss, the Clippers fall to 10-16 overall and 9-10 in conference play.

Adelphi and Concordia opened the game slow, as the Clippers crawled out to a 5-4 lead on a Brian Antonelli (Staten Island, N.Y.) three-pointer with 18:04 to play. Adelphi responded with an 18-1 run over the next 10:26 to take a commanding 22-6 advantage.

Over the next 7:34, the Panthers extended the lead to as much as 23, 34-11, on a Jamaal Wagner (Jamaica, N.Y.) jumper, before entering the locker room with a 36-16 cushion.

The second half was more of the same, with the Panthers taking their largest lead of the game, 59-34, with 7:54 remaining on another Wagner jumper. Concordia would cut the lead to 14 with 5:10 remaining before Adelphi made the final margin 21 on two made free throws by Tom Paul (Plainview, N.Y.)with just 33 seconds remaining.

Anthony Lee (Norwalk, CT) led the Clippers with 17 points and seven rebounds. Both David Swaby (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Antonelli chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sean Corrigan (Hicksville, N.Y.) led Adelphi with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. Teammate Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 14 points and five rebounds, while Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) contributed 13 points. Wagner also had a solid game scoring 11 points, grabbing nine rebounds and handing out five assists.

Adelphi closes out the regular season on Saturday, February 25 when they play host to St. Thomas Aquinas at 7:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
