Men's Basketball Knocks Off Pace, 70-67

Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team built a 15 point halftime, holding host Pace University to just 25 percent shooting in the first half to pick up a 70-67 win in the second day of the Pace Holiday Classic. The win brings Adelphi's record to 4-5 overall, while Pace falls to 7-8.

Adelphi opened up the game hot, outscoring Pace 12-1 in the first 5:51 to take command early. The Panthers pushed the advantage to 14 on a Sky Khaleel (Queens, N.Y.) lay-up with 8:07 to play, taking a 20-6 lead.

Pace cut the Panther edge to just seven, 26-19, with 2:12 remaining in the first half, but Adelphi closed out the period with an 8-0 run that included six points from Anthony Noble (Uniondale, N.Y.) to take a 34-19 lead into the break.

The Setters came out of the half and immediately cut into Adelphi's lead, using a 12-2 run to pull within five, 36-31, with 17:34 left in the game. Pace kept it close, knocking the Panther lead to just two points on three occasions before knotting the game at 67 with 1:09 on the clock.

With the score still tied at 67, Gibraltar White had a chance to give Pace the win but his three-pointer was blocked by Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and the rebound was picked up by Noble. At the other end Blaize canned a three-pointer of his own with one second on the clock to clinch the win for Adelphi.

White led Pace with 22 points and added five assists, while O'Neil Morgan chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds. Desmond Quincy-Jones and Ryan Williams also reached double figures, scoring 12 and 11 points apiece.

Adelphi placed four players in double figures led by Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 18 points. Noble added 15 points and five rebounds, while Khaleel contributed 12 points and five rebounds and Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) scored 11 points.

The Panthers return to action on January 6, 2007 when they play host to Philadelphia University at 3:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
