Men's Basketball Stopped By Assumption, 76-63

Worcester, MA - The Adelphi men's basketball team traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts on December 21 to take on Assumption. The Panthers shot 46 percent in the first half, moving out to a 39-35 lead, but went cold in the second period, falling 76-63. The loss drops Adelphi to 3-4 overall, while Assumption climbs to 5-5.

Adelphi opened the game by blitzing their host with 12-4 run in the opening 4:43, however Assumption recovered, using a 9-0 run to take a 13-12 lead with 12:01 left in the first half. Adelphi and Assumption traded leads for the remainder of the first half, until the Panthers got a three-pointer from Donnell Cummings (South Ozone Park, N.Y.) to take a seven point lead, 35-28 with 3:08 to play on their way to a 39-35 halftime lead.

The Panthers maintained the advantage in the early stages of the second half, pushing their advantage to six on an Anthony Noble (Uniondale, N.Y.) three-pointer with 15:40 to play. However Assumption countered with a 7-0 run to take a 50-49 lead 13:51 on the clock.

From there it was back and forth until the score was deadlocked at 59 with 6:22 to play in the game. Assumption took hold of the momentum and closed the game on a 17-4 run to pull out a 76-63 victory.

Mike Taft led Assumption with 18 points and four rebounds, while Byron Leroy chipped in 17 points and five rebounds. Alex Popp also went for double figures, scoring 12 points and adding eight rebounds.

The Panthers placed three players in double figures, led by Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who scored 17 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Noble contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Cummings scored 16.

Adelphi returns to action on December 29 when they take on St. Michael's in Pleasantville, New York at 6:00 pm.
