The Adelphi University women's basketball team suffered a tough 79-49 decision at Pace University on Monday evening at Goldstein Athletic Center. The Panthers fall to 3-4 overall while the Setters improve to 6-2.
Graduate student Valentina Ionova led the Panthers with 14 points, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Junior Mary Lepore chipped in ten points and six rebounds. Sophomore Serita Lee pulled down nine rebounds, seven offensive, to go along with her eight points. Freshman Megan McDonnell tallied six boards.
The Setters never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 15 with the help of a 23-9 run which started at the 13:26 mark and ended 4:46 mark. Pace took a 38-26 lead into the half with the help of its stingy defense, as they held Adelphi to 20.7% shooting from the field. The Panthers faired much better from the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-15.
The second half featured much of the same as Pace shot a sizzling 70.8 percent from the field. The Setters pushed their lead to 30, using a 27-10 run to close out the game. Adelphi held the rebounding edge over Pace, 41-36.
The Setters were led by senior Ashley Wallace, who tallied a game-high 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting, while recording a team-high seven rebounds. Liran Buchris Stephanie Klingele and Andrews all contributed to the offensive production with 14 points apiece. Buchris also dished out a game-high nine assists.
This ends Adelphi's three-game road trip as they return to the comforts of Woodruff Hall to take on Mercy College in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, December 13. The men's game tips off first at 5:30 p.m. followed by the women at 7:30 p.m.
