Panthers Advance To ASC Finals

Garden City, N.Y. - The #1 seeded Adelphi University men's soccer team defeated #4 seed Philadelphia University, 1-0, in first round action of the Atlantic Soccer Conference Tournament. The Panthers (10-6-1) advance to Sunday's final and will face #3 Florida Atlantic University at 1:00 pm at Stiles Field.

Adelphi and Philadelphia played even the first half, although the Panthers held a slight 6-3 shot advantage.

Action heated up in the second half as freshman defender Kris Frick (Warwick, Bermuda) found the back of the net in the 54th minute on a 30 yard shot to put the Panthers ahead. This was the first goal of the season for Frick and the ultimate game-winner.

The Panthers riddled the Rams goalie Mike Wallover (Lancaster, PA) with several good attempts in the second half. Wallover tallied eight saves in the contest, while Mike Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made one stop for the Panthers.

In the second game of the afternoon, Florida Atlantic upset Hartwick with a 1-0 victory to advance to the final round. Senior Luka Lau (Belgrade, Serbia) headed in the ball on a cross from junior Franz Chevannes (Sunrise, Fla,) at 32:18 for the win.

Adelphi defeated FAU, 1-0, in its regular season match-up on October 7. The Panthers are 1-2 in their all-time series record against the Owls.

The winner of Sunday's game will be crowed ASC Tournament champions and will also receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Tournament scheduled to being on Friday, November10.
