Adelphi traveled to Brookville, New York on Wednesday, November 1 to take on fourth seeded C.W. Post in the quarterfinals of the East Coast Conference (ECC) tournament. The Panthers came back from a 1-0 hole, to knot the match at one game apiece before falling 3-1 (23-30, 30-26, 28-30, 22-30).
With the victory, C.W. Post advances to Friday night's ECC semifinals, and will take on top-seeded host Dowling at Suffolk Community College's Selden, New York campus. That match will start at 7:30 - after third-seeded NYIT takes on second-seeded New Haven at 5 p.m.
Adelphi cut C.W. Post's lead to 17-14 in game one, but the Pioneers used a 5-0 run to gain some breathing room on their way to a 30-23 game one win.
In game two Adelphi found itself down 13-9, before using an 8-2 run to push ahead by a 17-15 count. The Pioneers rallied to tie the score twice at 24-24 and 25-25, before consecutive C.W. Post errors gave Adelphi the lead for good.
Game three was a back-and-forth affair that saw 16 ties and 13 lead changes. Adelphi pushed out four points to break a 24-24 tie and take a 28-24 advantage. However, The Panthers committed errors on five of the next six points, allowing the Pioneers to steal a 30-28 win.
C.W. Post got out to a quick lead before Adelphi could close the gap to 13-12, but the Pioneers responded with a 14-4 run to secure a berth in the tournament semis.
Pioneers sophomore Dominique Ringold led her team with 18 digs, while junior setter Aisha Sealy set 34 assists and served a match-high five aces.
Adelphi was led by a 13-kill, seven-block outing from Lauren Flanagan (Boulder, CO), while Audrey Goss (Birmingham, AL) chipped in with 10 kills and five blocks. Libero Samantha Johnston (Port Jervis, N.Y.) led all players with 25 digs, while teammate Brittany Addeo (Minden, NV) added a game-high 44 assists.
