Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's soccer team out shot visiting Bridgeport 8-0 in the second half of action, but could not overcome an early 3-0 deficit. With the loss the #14 ranked Panthers fall to 8-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play, while the Purple Knights improve to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the East Coast Conference (ECC).

The Purple Knights got on the board quick with freshman Sofia Hoflin (Ostersond, Sweden) heading in a goal off an Emma Woolley (Sheffield, England) corner kick, 1:44 into the match. Four minutes later, Hoflin again found the back of the Panther net off another header. Hoflin then completed the hat trick at 13:33 by scoring off a header from Woolley, sending Bridgeport into the half with a 3-0 lead.

The second half Adelphi tried to rally back, firing off eight shots, but were not able to put one past Bridgeport goalkeeper Amanda Roche (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) who made six saves in the match. The Adelphi defense held its ground, not allowing a shot from the Purple Knights in the second half.

The Panthers had their best opportunity in the first half when Diana Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) sent a ball wide left off an Amanda Herrera (Lafayette, CO) corner kick at 27:42. Adelphi again had a scoring chance broken up when Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) took the ball into the penalty box, dribbled past the Bridgeport defense, but Roche saved her shot at 63:36 in the second half.

Women's soccer is back in action October 10 when they travel to West Haven, CT to take on the Chargers of New Haven at 4:00 pm.
