Women's Soccer Rolls Past Queens, 5-0

Flushing, N.Y. - Senior Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) tallied two of Adelphi's five goals as the women's soccer team topped Queens College, 5-0, in conference action yesterday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 8-0-3 and 4-0-1 in the ECC. The Lady Knights fall to 3-5-1 and 1-4-1 in the ECC.

The Panthers struck early, with Grodotzke scoring on a feed from sophomore Amanda Herrera (Lafayette, CO) in the third minute of play. Sophomore Lauren Slattery (Nashua, NH) got in on the action in the 16th minute on an assist from senior Michelle Giovaniello (Nesconset, N.Y.) as her shot hit off the Queen's goalie and post into the net.

Sophomore Theresa Ennis (Garden City, N.Y.) recorded her first collegiate assist on Grodotzke's second goal of the day at 26:51. Sophomore Marissa Cannella (Corwall, N.Y.) made it a 4-0 game as she found the back of the net at 37:42 with help from sophomore Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.). Klimkowski rounded out the scoring at 40:45, picking up her first goal of the season in the process.

The Panthers five goals came on 15 first half shots, compared with just five for the Lady Knights. Play evened out in the second half, with both teams taking seven shots. Adelphi also held a 8-2 advantage on corner kicks in the contest.

Junior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made six saves in the win. Estefanie Duque (Bronx, N.Y.) and Valentina Duque (Woodhaven, N.Y.) shared time in goal for Queens with Estefanie collecting six saves in 73:11 minutes and Valentina playing 16:49 minutes with no saves.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, October 7, hosting the University of Bridgeport at 1:00 p.m.
