Oct. 21, 2006

Box Score

Philadelphia, PA - The Adelphi men's soccer team traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 21 to take on Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) rival Philadelphia University. Adelphi got two quick goals in the first half to secure a 2-1 win. With the victory the Panthers improve to 8-5-1 overall and remain unblemished in ASC play at 4-0-1, while the Rams fall to 6-8-1 and 3-2 in conference action.

Adelphi struck early, taking a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into play when Val Charalambous (Larnaka, Cyprus) scored his first goal of the season. 15 minutes later Ron Forman (Massapequa, N.Y.) gave Adelphi a two-goal cushion when he collected a feed from Angelo Abballe (Albertson, N.Y.) and then found the back of the Philadelphia net.

Philadelphia entered the second half trailing 2-0, but made the match interesting when Matt Tompkins scored his eighth goal off the season off of a Nick White assist to pull the Rams within one. However that was as close as they would get as Adelphi goalie Michael Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made two saves in the second half to secure the win.

Hurley made five total saves in the victory, while Charles Custer collected three saves in the Philadelphia net.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, October 24 when they take on Columbia at 6:00 pm.
