The Adelphi volleyball team played host to East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Mercy College on Thursday, October 17 in Woodruff Hall. Adelphi controlled the action in the first two games and battled back from a deficit in game three to secure a 3-0 win. With the win the Panthers improve to 13-9 overall and 4-3 in the ECC, while Mercy is still searching for their first conference win at 0-6 and fall to 3-15.
Adelphi and Mercy were deadlocked at 24 and 27 in game one before the Panthers reeled off the last three points to steal a 30-27 win. Adelphi took control early in game two and the result was never in doubt as the Panthers collected a 30-17 victory in game two. Mercy looked in control in game three with a 28-27 lead before Adelphi rallied to close out the game and pick up a 30-28 win.
Mariola St. Fluer and Natalee Carty led Mercy with seven kills apiece, while teammate Melissa Baccari posted 20 assists. Diana Bruzzone paced the Flyers with 14 digs.
Defensively Samantha Johnston (Port Jervis, N.Y.) and Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) collected 16 kills apiece and Maggio added 12 kills. Brittany Addeo (Minden, NV) led all players with a game-high 36 assists.
Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, October 19 when they play host to Molloy at 7:00 pm.
