Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University women's soccer team topped visiting Bentley College, 3-0, on Monday afternoon at Stiles Field. The Panthers improve to 9-1-4 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 5-11.
Sophomore Amanda Herrera (Lafayette, CO) tallied her first goal of the season and the ultimate game-winner in the 11th minute. After finding an opening in the Bentley defense she dribbled into the box, hitting the far side of the net.
The Panthers riddled Bentley goalkeeper Kristin Stanmyer with a total of 26 shots in the contest, but did not penetrate again until the 72nd minute. Junior Denise Auer (Holbrook, N.Y.) converted a pass from senior Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) which she tapped around Stanmyer for the point. Lopez scored the final goal of the day on a header, crossed from Kristin Waldman (East Meadow, N.Y.), into the far post.
Junior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made three saves in the shutout, her eighth of the season. Stanmyer had nine stops for the Falcons.
Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, October 18, as they travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to face St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:30 pm.
