Oct. 10, 2006

Box Score

West Haven, CT - The Adelphi University women's soccer team played the University of New Haven to a double overtime tie this afternoon at Robert B. Dodds Stadium. The Panthers are now 8-1-4 and 4-1-2 in the ECC, while the Chargers move to 9-4-2 and 5-1-1 in league play.

The Panthers, ranked #20 in the lastest NSCAA Coaches Poll, played strong in the first half, holding a 6-2 shot advantage over the Chargers. Senior Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) accounted for three of the shots, all in the first six minutes of play. Senior Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) and sophomore Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) made up the remaining two shots, both stopped by UNH goalkeeper Maureen MacConnell.

UNH stepped up its intensity in the second half, managing to lead 7-6 in shots. However neither team was able to find the back of the net, forcing overtime.

Each team had a shot on goal in the first overtime, with both attempts saved by the respective goalies. In the second stanza, New Haven held a 3-1 offensive advantage, but the Adelphi defense managed to keep its opponent at bay.

Both goalkeepers had solid games, with junior Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) accounting for six saves and MacConnell making seven stops.

This marks the fourth tie for the Panthers this season, tying the school record set during the 1985 season when the team finished 11-5-4 en route to a Division I ECAC title.

Adelphi returns to action next Monday, October 16, when they host Bentley College at 3:30 pm on Stiles Field.
