The Adelphi men's basketball team held visiting Molloy without a field goal for a stretch of over 11 minutes in the first half, building an insurmountable 42-15 halftime edge. With the win the Panthers run their win streak to six games, improving to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in conference play. The loss drops Molloy to 6-12 overall and 5-6 in NYCAC action.
Molloy controlled the early action, opening an 11-6 lead just 4:30 into the game, thanks to seven early points from Keith Tilley (Kew Gardens, N.Y.). But Adelphi came alive at the 15:30 mark, sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the Panthers went on a 26-0 run that lasted over 11 minutes.
Adelphi continued to control the action late, outscoring Molloy 10-4 over the final 4:10, to enter halftime with a 42-15 bulge.
The Panthers opened their largest lead of the game, 44-15 just 18:32 into the second half when Aaron Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.) converted a lay-up.
But Molloy would not go away, chipping into Adelphi's advantage and getting as close as 15 points, 68-53, with 1:21 to play, before falling 72-55.
Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, N.Y.) led three Lions in double-figures with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Keith Tilley chipped in 11, nine in the first half, and Glenn Martin added 10.
Blaize paced Adelphi with a game-high 18 points, while Cummings filled up the stat box, scoring 11 points, handing out six assists and pulling down six boards. Mike Mosby also reached double-figures for the Panthers with 10 points and six rebounds.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, February 1 when they play host to Queens College at 7:30 pm in Woodruff Hall.
