Women Hold on For Win Against Concordia, 83-72

Bronxville, N.Y. - Sophomore Mary Lepore (Manhasset, N.Y.) was one of five players in double figures, leading the team with 19 points, as the Adelphi University Women's Basketball defeated Concordia College 83-72. The Panthers improve to 7-8 overall and 6-2 in the NYCAC while the Clippers fall to 4-10 on the season and 3-5 in the NYCAC.

The Panthers opened strong leading, 46-32, with 6:19 remaining in the first half. Lepore poured in 14 points in the half, including 4-of-4 from three-point range to pace Adelphi. Freshman Erin Thames (River Vale, N.J.) chipped in eight of her 12 points in the first half as Adelphi shot 50 percent from the field. The Panthers held a comfortable 40-28 lead at intermission.

The Clippers opened the second half on a 22-10 run, tying the game at 50 on a three-point basket by Pam Karagiorgios at 11:29. Over the next few minutes, Concordia, who shot a sizzling 80 percent, pulled ahead by three. A basket and foul shot by senior Carlyshia Hurdle (Brentwood, N.Y.) spurred a 9-2 run as the Panthers pulled ahead, 70-63, with 5:05 remaining. The Clippers would not lay down, pulling to within three points, 72-69, at 2:06 in regulation. Adelphi rallied, with help from freshman Lisa Manetta (Glendale, N.Y.), who recorded 10 of her 14 points in the second half, including 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the last 40 seconds of the game.

Sophomore Gianna Smith (Hempstead, N.Y.) had a solid game, contributing 17 points. Hurdle had 15 points.

The Clippers were led by Monique Mighty with a game-high 21 points. Katie Reynolds had 18 points.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, January 24, travleing to Sparkill, N.Y. to face St. Thomas Aquinas. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
