Senior Eric Martin (Laurelton, N.Y.) led all players with a game-high 21 points as the Adelphi University men's basketball defeated the University of New Haven, 68-51, on Saturday afternoon at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers improve to 10-4 on the season and 6-1 in NYCAC play while the Chargers fall to 3-10 and 1-5 in the league.
The Panthers came out strong in the first half, shooting a sizzling 60.9 percent from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. In contrast, the Chargers connected on just 7-of-22 from the field. Junior Samuel Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who poured in 11 of his 13 points in the first half, hit a 3-pointer with 3:02 remaining to give Adelphi its largest lead, 37-18. The Panthers went into the locker room with a comfortable 39-21 advantage.
New Haven took advantage of poor Adelphi shooting to start the second half on an 19-6 run, 45-40, with 11:01. The Panthers rallied back, with junior Mike Mosby (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) accounting for six of Adelphi's points in a 12-2 run to pull ahead, 57-42, with 4:33 remaining.
New Haven was led by John Sullivan with 17 points and nine rebounds. Raphael daSilva added 16 points.
Adelphi returns to action next Saturday, January 21, traveling to Bronxville, N.Y. to take on Concordia College at 3:00 p.m.
