Box Score

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's basketball team held their third opponent of the season to 40 points or less in a 70-40 win at Dowling College. The Panthers held Dowling to just 33 percent shooting on the night and forced 20 turnovers to secure the win. With the victory Adelphi improves to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Dowling falls to 2-11 on the season and 1-5 in NYCAC action.

Adelphi used their trademark tough defense in the early going to build a 11-0 lead, holding Dowling scoreless for the first 7:53. The Golden Lions got on the board, cutting the Panther lead to nine, 11-2 with their first bucket, but could not slow down Adelphi's offense.

The Panthers went on a 12-3 run over the next 5:02 to claim a 23-5 edge with 7:05 remaining in the half. Adelphi kept the defensive pressure high, not allowing Dowling to reach double figures until the 4:31 mark of the first half and entered the break with a 33-17 halftime edge.

The second half was more of the same as Adelphi's lead ballooned to as much as 38 points, 67-29, on a three-pointer from freshman Jelani Winfield (Woodside, N.Y.). Dowling would cut the margin to 30 as time expired, giving Adelphi a 70-40 victory.

Raheim Lowery was the lone Golden Lion in double-figures with 14 points, he also added a game-high 13 rebounds.

Kimani Blaize (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with a season-high 21 points on 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc. The Panthers also showed great balanced getting points from nine different players in the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, January 14 when they play host to New Haven at 3:00 pm.
