Box Score

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team kicked off its 2005 conference schedule with a road win over Molloy, 30-22, 30-15, 30-11. The Panthers improve to 2-6 on the season and 1-0 in the NYCAC. The Lady Lions fall to 0-3 and 0-1 in league play.

Junior Kelly Campbell and sophomore Kathleen Creegan led the Panther offense, recording nine and 10 kills respectively. Junior Deanna Maggio tallied 40 assists, while senior Joann Abruzzo had a team-high 16 digs.

Molloy took an early 7-4 lead in game one before Adelphi rallied back to tie the game at 7-7. The Panthers pulled ahead, 14-9, for good off of the serving of Maggio who had two aces in the game. Adelphi's lead extended to 29-15 before a late Molloy rally closed to within seven, 29-22. A kill by Campbell gave the Panthers their final point.

The Panthers took early leads in both games two and three and were never challenged. Adelphi benefitted from strong serving by senior Abruzzo and Creegan. The Panthers tallied 10 service aces in the match.

"This was an important win for us because Molloy has always given us problems in the past", Head Coach Joe Chojnacki said. "We needed to prove that we could come in and take charge of the match and we did. Deanna and Joann played really well and we got contributions from everybody which was great."

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, September 9, as they travel to the Millersville Tournament in Millersville, PA. Their first opponent Ohio Valley at 4:00 p.m.
