Bridgeport, Conn. -
The Adelphi University volleyball team suffered a tough five game conference loss at the University of Bridgeport, 22-30, 15-30, 30-26, 30-27, 14-16. The Panthers fall to 6-9 on the season and 2-1 in the NYCAC. The Purple Knights improve to 6-6 and 1-1 in the conference.
"It was great to see us not playing our 'A' game and still be very competitive," Head Coach Joe Chojnacki said. "Early on we had no rhythm but as the match went on we started getting into a groove and gave them all they could handle. In game five they got a few breaks but that's part of the game."
Sophomore Lauren Flanagan led the Panthers offensivley with a career-high 16 kills to go along with four block assists. "Once again Lauren came up big in the middle and we got a major contribution from Sam Johnston," Chojnacki said. "That's what's great about this team, you never know who is gonna step up on any given night."
Freshman Samantha Johnston chipped in nine kills and nine digs. Junior Rachael Cornick was the leading dig-getter with 2, just shy of tying her career best of 27, and also contributed nine kills.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, September 27, traveling to Pace University for a non-conference match-up slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
