The Adelphi men's soccer team held an 11-2 edge in shots after the first half, but could not capitalize on their opportunities falling 2-0 to visiting Stony Brook. With the loss the Panthers fall to 1-5-1 overall, while Stony Brook improves 5-2-1 on the season.
Adelphi pressured the Seawolves in the first half, producing 11 shots, three of which found the goal. The Panther defense also played well in the opening 45 minutes, limiting Stony Brook to just one shot on goal.
The second half was played much more even with both teams producing quality chances at goal. In the 65th minute of play junior Dieudonne Nonga (Douala, Cameroon) found himself near the Stony Brook goal with just one defender to beat. Nonga slipped by the defender but John Moschella (Staten Island, N.Y.) was already at Nonga's feet collecting the ball.
Just over a minute later Yahaya Musa (Elmont, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Michael Palacio (Long Beach, N.Y.) to give the Seawolves a 1-0 edge. In the 79th minute of play Chris Megaloudis (Queens, N.Y.) scored his sixth goal of the season after collecting a Chris Scarpati (Dix Hills, N.Y.) to give Stony Brook a comfortable 2-0 edge.
Sophomore Dan Westerman (Lynbrook, N.Y.) collected three saves in his Panther debut, while Mochella picked up eight saves and the shutout.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, September 24 when they play host to visiting Princeton at 1:00 pm on Stiles Field.
