Women's Volleyball Sinks New Haven, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's volleyball trailed just twice all match in securing their second straight conference win and their fifth win in seven games with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-24, 30-21) win over New Haven. With the win the Panthers improve to 5-8 overall, while remaining unbeaten in the NYCAC at 2-0, New Haven falls to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Adelphi found themselves down 5-2 at the beginning of the first game but used a 4-0 run to take a 6-5 lead en route to a 30-24 win that game. The Panthers immediately took control in game two, scoring six of the first nine points to jump out to a 6-3 edge. Junior Rachael Cornick (Endicott, N.Y.) had finishing kills on two of those six points. Adelphi won game two by an identical score to game one, 30-24. Game three was more of the same with the Panthers taking seven of the first 11 points of the match on their way to a 30-21 win.

"It was very hot tonight and that definitely played a factor," Head Coach Joe Chojnacki said. "But we got big nights from Rachael and Deanna to pick up another important conference win."

Cornick led the Panthers with a double-double, chipping in 15 kills and 13 digs. Junior Deanna Maggio (Island Park, N.Y.) had a game-high 34 assists, while teammate Meaghan Joyce (Massapequa, N.Y.) added seven kills and 14 digs.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, September 20 when they play host to visiting St. Rose at 7:00 pm in Woodruff Hall.
