Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team shutout American International College, 3-0, in its season home-opener on Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. With their first win of the season, the Panthers improve to 1-1-1, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-3.

After a sluggish start, senior Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.) put the Panthers on board in the 16th minute with an unassisted goal. This goal seemed to spur on Adelphi as they began to dominate play, while holding the AIC to just two shots in the period. Adelphi collected its second goal when freshman Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, N.Y.) beat out an AIC defender to go one-on-one with freshman goalkeeper Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass.). Klimkowski chipped the ball high over Hodecker's head and into the net to record her first collegiate goal and give the Panthers a 2-0 lead going into the half.

Adelphi continued its strong play in the second half with several on goal opportunities. The Panthers found the back of the net for the third time at 72:42 as a header by Klimkowski ricocheted off the center bar then dropped at the feet of sophomore Denise Auer (Holbrook, N.Y.) who tipped in the ball for her first goal of the season.

In the contest, Adelphi held a 25-6 shot advantage over AIC. Sophomore Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded two saves in the shutout while Hodecker collected 11 saves.

Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, September 14, hosting Dowling College in its conference opener at 4:00 p.m.
