Panthers Struggle In Day One of West Florida Invitational

Pensacola, Fla. - The Adelphi volleyball team dropped both matches in day one of the West Florida Invitational on Friday. The Panthers faced Winona State first, falling 30-15, 30-20, 30-16. Later that evening they lost to Saint Leo, 30-27, 30-24, 30-27.

Adelphi struggled in its first match, hitting .028 compared to .331 for Winona State. Sophomore Lauren Flanagan had five kills and nine digs to lead the Panthers. Junior Deanna Maggio added 24 assists. Winona had two players in double digit kills, led by Kaylan Lati with 16.

The Panthers hitting woes continued in the evening contest as they managed just .020 hitting percentage. Flanagan again led the team with seven kills along with five digs. Junior Rachael Cornick had six kills and a team high 10 digs. Saint Leo's was tough on the serve, forcing 13 Adelphi service errors in the contest. Erin Oberlin had eight kills and Nikki Pratt led with 11 digs.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, facing Presbyterian at 11:30 a.m. followed by Southern Arkansas at 4:30 p.m.
