Brookville, N.Y. - C.W. Post completed the 2005 regular season with a sweep of the Adelphi University softball team, winning 3-2 in nine innings before squeaking out a 1-0 decision in the nightcap on Tuesday, May 3. The Pioneers, improve to 35-9 and seal the NYCAC regular season title with a 23-1 record. The Panthers fall to 25-15 overall and 17-7 in the NYCAC.

The Pioneers had taken a 1-0 lead after one inning on freshman Holly Eringis' single to right, then doubled the advantage two innings later. The Panthers were able to send the game into extra innings as a result of three Post errors, the first run scoring on Amy Delmore's double in the sixth. In their last at bat, Adelphi knotted the score as pinch runner Dely Francisco advanced to second on an error by the catcher, then scored on an error by the pitcher.

Adelphi had two runs on eight hits with no errors. C.W. Post had three runs on nine hits with three errors. Junior Carla Buonviaggio (6-5) pitched the entire game for the Panthers, allowing three runs, three earned, walking two and striking out three.

In game two, freshman Samantha Tilton (7-3) and C.W. Post starter Samantha Yodowitz (15-3) each tossed three-hitters, but an unearned run in the bottom of the third proved to be the difference in the game. Kelsey Cooley led off for Post with a double, then scored after Katie Younes' sacrifice attempt resulted in an Adelphi error that scored the lone run.

Adelphi had no runs on three hits with one error. C.W. Post had one run on three hits with no errors.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, May 6, hosting first-round action of the NYCAC Tournament. Game times are 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. with teams to be announced.
