Senior Katherine Hock (Mineola, N.Y.) along with sophomores Diana and Lauren Lopez (Farmingville, N.Y.) registered five goals apiece as the #4 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team defeated the University of New Haven, 21-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Stiles Field. Adelphi improves to 13-1 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 7-8.
Diana collected five assists as well, setting a new Adelphi school record for most points in a game with 10. The previous record of nine points was shared by Katherine Hock and Leigh Fennessey.
Lauren tallied all five of her goals in the first half as the Panthers led, 15-3, at the intermission. Sophomore Tara Grodotzke (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Meghan Blume (Bel Air, MD) chipped in two goals each in the win. Junior Dawn Anselmin (Lynbrook, N.Y.) had one goal, while dishing out six assists.
Senior Sandy Schmidt (New Milford, CT) and freshman Maureen Wark (Yarmouth, ME) had two goals each for New Haven.
Adelphi goalie Grace Monjardo (Rocky Point, N.Y.) had six stops, while junior Heather Gebhardt (E. Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves for the Chargers.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, May 7, in their season finale at C.W. Post at 12:00 p.m. This game is crucial for the Panthers who are vying for their second straight NCAA Tournament bid. The winner of Saturday's contest will have the best chance of earning an NCAA berth.
