Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up by #8 Dowling, 11-9

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's lacrosse team trailed Dowling College by the score of 7-2 at the half, but rallied back in the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Golden Lions 7-4 in the last two periods of play. However the Panthers ran out of time, falling 11-9. With the loss #7 Adelphi falls to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the NYCAC, while #8 Dowling improves to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Adelphi and Dowling exchanged goals in the first five minutes of the opening quarter. Then the Golden Lions scored three unanswered goals to close the first quarter with a 4-1 lead. The Panthers pulled to within 4-2 on a Wes Green (Adelaide, Australia) goal with 10:26 to play in the period, but Dowling answered with three more goals to enter the half with a 7-2 cushion.

The Panthers opened the second straight quarter with a goal when Steve Heisler (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored just 56 seconds into the third quarter. Dowling's Ryan Campbell responded with his third goal of the game 30 seconds later, putting Dowling ahead 8-3. Then Adelphi reeled off three straight goals to pull within two, 8-6, but the Golden Lions scored with 1:53 remaining in the third to make the score 9-6 heading into the final period.

Adelphi and Dowling scored two goals apiece to open the fourth and make the score 11-8 with 7:54 to play. Green scored his third goal of the game with 5:35 to play to pull Adelphi within two, 11-9 but that was as close as Adelphi would get.

Trent Machner collected 14 saves in goal for Adelphi, while Nick Tracy collected 22 saves and the win for Dowling.

Adelphi returns to action on May 7 when they take on conference rival C.W. Post at 1:00 pm on Stiles Field.
