The Adelphi baseball team split a double header with C.W. Post this afternoon in Brookville. The Panthers dropped the first game, 7-1, but rebounded to pick up a win in the second game, 6-4. With the split Adelphi improves to 11-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference, while C.W. Post remains a game under .500 at 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the NYCAC.
Game One
Rinaldo Fable (Franklin Square, N.Y.) pitched three innings of one run, one hit baseball before handing the ball over to Nick Testani (Williston, N.Y.) in the fourth. Testani got hit hard in the fourth giving up seven hits and allowing six runs, giving the Pioneers a 7-0 edge.
Adelphi got one run back in the top of the fifth when Bryan Horrmann (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored on a Robert Calca (Elmont, N.Y.) double to make the score 7-1. But that was as close as the Panthers would get, falling 7-1. Fable was charged with the loss, while Mike Vicaro (Randolph, NJ) picked up the win.
Game Two
The Panthers jumped on C.W. Post early, scoring two runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded thanks to a single and two walks, Frank Alesia (Valley Steam, N.Y.) stroked a single, scoring Tom Sicari (Westbury, N.Y.) and Mike Connors (Babylon, N.Y.).
Adelphi tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth after the Pioneers loaded the bases with an intentional walk to Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.). Matt DeWitt (North Bellmore, N.Y.) reached on an error that scored Alesia and Adam Kipling (Smithtown, N.Y.) to make the game 4-0.
C.W. Post got those two runs back in a hurry in the bottom of the sixth. Frank Carrotta (Glen Cove, N.Y.) singled to open the bottom of the sixth, bringing up Chris Tipa (Huntington Station, N.Y.). Tipa hit a bomb to score two runs and bring the Pioneers within two, 4-2.
Adelphi got two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a single and a wild pitch to take a 6-2 lead. C.W. Post put a scare into the Panthers picking up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and had two runners on with the go ahead run at the plate. Brian Neal (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) got a pop out to end the game and give Adelphi a 6-4 win.
Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) picked up the win, while Derek Foder (Malverne, N.Y.) was charged with the loss. Neal was credited with his first save of the season.
The Panthers and C.W. Post will renew their rivalry on Sunday, April 10 when the Pioneers travel to Garden City, New York for a 1:00 pm start.
