Men's Lacrosse Stumbles Against #3 Mercyhurst, 7-4

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's lacrosse held #3 Mercyhurst College to seven goals but managed just four of their own, falling 7-4. With the loss #6 Adelphi falls to 3-3 overall, while Mercyhurst improves to 9-0. A delphi and Mercyhurst traded goals early in the first quarter with the Lakers striking first. Mike McLellan (Toronto, Ontario) scored off of a Troy Ledbetter (Cincinnati, OH) feed to put the Lakers ahead 1-0. Steve Heisler (Deer Park, N.Y.) answered back 1:45 later to not the game at one.

Then Mercyhurst netted three unanswered goals over a span of six minutes to take a 4-1 edge. Stephen Mortimer (Adelaide, Australia) scored off of a feed from Dale Pescitelli (Shoreham, N.Y.) to pull the Panthers to within 4-2 after one quarter.

Neither team was able to find the net in the second quarter, leading to a 4-2 halftime edge for Mercyhurst. The Lakers scored the only goal of the third quarter when Ledbetter found the net on a feed from McLellan to put the Lakers ahead 5-2.

Adelphi opened the fourth with a quick goal, scoring just 10 seconds into play but the Lakers answered back to push the advantage back to three goals, 6-3. The Panthers and Mercyhurst would trade goals one more time in the fourth and then the Lakers just ran out the clock.

Trent Machner made a career-high 14 saves in the loss, while Mike Bringley (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up four saves and the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when they travel to Old Westbury, New York to take on NYIT at 1:00 pm.
