Baseball Stops Molloy, 11-8

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team hosted Molloy this afternoon and got hit hard in the first three innings, falling behind 5-0. But the Panthers bounced back scoring five runs in the fifth and four in the seventh to pick up an 11-8 conference win. With the win Adelphi improves to 10-11 overall and 5-3 in the NYCAC, while Molloy falls to 9-15 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Molloy jumped on the Panthers early, scoring three runs in the first inning on two singles and three doubles. The Lions then tacked on two more runs in the third and one run in the fourth, while holding Adelphi scoreless to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Panthers came alive in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to make the score 6-5. Adelphi took a 9-6 lead in the top of the seventh with four more runs on five more hits. Molloy got one back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Panthers picked up two insurance runs in the top of the eighth to pick up an 11-8 win.

Chris Widmer (Valley Stream, N.Y.) pitched an inning of relief to pick up the win, while Michael Thompson (Bethpage, N.Y.) closed out the game to collect his third save of the season.

Adelphi returns to action on April 9 when they travel to Brookville, N.Y. to take on C.W. Post in a doubleheader.
