Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi men's baseball team held visiting Bridgeport to just four runs on 10 hits, while putting up seven runs of their own to earn a 7-4 win. The win give the Panthers 20 wins on the season for the first time since 2001. With the win Adelphi improves to 20-15 overall and 11-7 in the NYCAC, while Bridgeport falls to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in conference action.

Both Adelphi and Bridgeport cruised through the first two innings, keeping the game scoreless. But in the bottom of the third inning Adelphi got consecutive doubles from Tom Cali (Shirley, N.Y.) and Doug Anderson (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) to open a 1-0 lead with one out.

Brian Rath (Wantagh, N.Y.) grounded out to second, but it was enough to score Anderson and push Adelphi's lead to 2-0. Tom Sicari (Westbury, N.Y.) capped the inning with a long home run to make it a 3-0 Panther lead.

The Purple Knights traded runs with Adelphi in the fourth and fifth innings, before getting two runs in the top of the sixth on sacrifice fly and a single to pull to within one, 5-4. In the bottom of the eighth the Panthers added two insurance runs an Anderson single and a Sicari sacrifice fly.

Michael Thompson (Bethpage, N.Y.) closed the door on Bridgeport in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the year. Michael Myers (Wantagh, N.Y.) was credited with his fifth win of the season.

Adelphi returns to action on April 29th when they play host to NYCAC rival Dowling College at 2:00 pm in Garden City, New York.
