Baseball Stops St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-1

April 17, 2005

Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team held St. Thomas Aquinas to just two hits to take three straight from the Spartans and run their win streak to six games. With the 3-1 non-conference win the Panthers improve to 17-13 overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas falls to 7-17 on the season.

The Spartans got on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second on a throwing error by Pat O'Neill (Oakville, CT). Adelphi tied the game at one in the top of the third when O'Neill doubled to right center, scoring Mike Connors (Babylon, N.Y.) from first.

The Panthers added two more runs in the top of the fourth when Matt DeWitt (North Bellmore, N.Y.) and Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) scored on an error. That was all Adelphi would need as Tom Cinelli (Farmingdale, N.Y.) pitched six innings of two hit baseball to pick up the win. Brian Neal held the Spartans hitless for the final two frames to collect the save.

Adelphi returns to action on Monday, April 18 when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut for a 3:30 pm conference match-up with New Haven.
