Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi baseball team played host to New Haven in a conference match-up this afternoon in Garden City, New York. The Panthers and New Haven combined for 27 runs on 36 hits, with Adelphi coming out on top, 17-10. With the win the Panthers improve to 14-13 overall and 7-5 in the NYCAC, while New Haven falls 4-13 overall and 1-8 in conference action.

After a scoreless first inning Adelphi jumped on New Haven, scoring five runs on five hits in the second inning. It was more of the same in the fourth as the Panthers scored four runs on five hits, including a one out two-run single by Tom Sicari (Westbury, N.Y.) to push Adelphi lead to 9-0.

Adelphi put what seemed to be the final nail in the coffin scoring six more runs in the fifth on four hits, including another two-run single by Sicari. But New Haven came alive in the top of the eighth, scoring eight runs on seven hits before Nick Lio (Massapequa, N.Y.) came in and got the final two outs of the inning to stop the bleeding.

Michael Myers (Wantagh, N.Y.) pitched seven solid innings, striking out seven and allowing just one run to pick up the win (3-3), while Dan Gulino (Alexandria, VA) was credited with the loss.

Sicari led Adelphi at the plate, going 2-4 with four RBI. Henry Daverin (Levittown, N.Y.) also had a big day; he was a perfect 3-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 16 when they play host to visiting St. Thomas Aquinas in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 pm.
