The Adelphi University softball team topped Mercy College 21-0 and 9-1 in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 16-10 overall and 10-4 in the NYCAC. The Flyers fall to 0-10 on the season and in the NYCAC.
After a 4-0 start, the Panthers exploded with 15 runs in the second inning. Adelphi got hits from all but five players in the game. The Flyers were plagued by errors, committing five in the contest. Sophomore Alana daSilva was 3-3 with three RBI. Junior Christina Semey was 2-2 with an RBI.
Junior Carla Buonviaggio (4-3) recorded the win allowing no hits, one walk and striking out four. Freshman Julia Schaper pitched the final two innings allowing three hits and striking out three.
Mercy took an early 1-0 lead in game two. Adelphi rallied with four runs in the second and extended its lead to nine. Senior Tonia Trapani and freshman Samantha Tilton were each 2-3 . Junior Amy Delmore recorded two doubles in three at-bats with an RBI.
Senior Katie Terris (3-3) was the pitcher on record, allowing four hits, one run, none earned, striking out six.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday April 16, traveling to Old Westbury, NY to face NYIT in a conference match-up beginning at 12 noon.
