The Adelphi baseball team gave up 25 runs in their last two games, falling to Mercyhurst by the score 16-8 and to Lynn 9-3. With those two losses Adelphi falls to 1-2 overall on the season.
Adelphi struggled from the beginning against Mercyhurst. Starting pitcher Tom Cinelli (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was unable to get out of the first inning, giving up five runs. Teammate Nick Testani (Williston Park, N.Y.) came in to stop the bleeding, holding Mercyhurst scoreless for the next three innings, which allowed the Panthers to climb back into the game by scoring three runs in the fourth to make the score 5-3.
The momentum swung back to Mercyhurst in the fifth with a three-run homerun that made the score 8-3 and put the game effectively out of reach. Frank Alesia (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up four hits and James Conklin (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) knocked in two runs with a double.
The Panthers hung tough with Lynn, holding the Fighting Knights to just four runs in the first six innings. At the end of six the score was 4-3 Lynn but Adelphi gave up five runs in the next two innings of action, falling 9-3.
Chris Zinkiewicz (Massapequa, N.Y.) pitched six innings, striking out three and allowing just one earned run. Adam Kipling was the lone bright spot at the plate with two RBI on one hit.
Adelphi returns to action on March 7, when they take on Bloomfield at 1:00 pm in Boca Raton, Florida.
