Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi baseball team played host to Pace University this afternoon and held the setters to just one run in eight of nine innings, but allowed six runs in the fourth, falling 7-2. With the loss the Panthers fall to 7-11 on the season, while Pace improves to 5-8 overall.
The game was shaping up as a pitcher's duel and remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when Pace erupted for six runs on five hits. The Setters loaded the bases in a single, double and a walk, bringing up Matt McNichol (Staten Island), who cleared the bases with a double, giving Pace a 3-0 lead. The Setters tacked on three more runs before Adelphi could stop the bleeding to take a 6-0 edge.
Pace managed to keep the Panthers scoreless until the eighth inning. Joe Maranino (Bronx, N.Y.) led off with a single. James Conklin (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) hit a shot over the left field wall that drove in Maranino and pulled the Panthers to within 7-2.
Matt Reilly (Denville, NJ) picked up the win for Pace, while Roger Mischel (Whitestone, N.Y.) was credited with the loss.
Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 2 when they play host to visiting New Haven at 12:00 pm.
