The Adelphi baseball team traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania today to play a doubleheader against the Rams. The Panthers fell in the first game 14-4, but the Panthers bats came alive in the second game to pick up a 13-1 win. With the split Adelphi improves to 6-10 overall and 3-3 in the NYCAC.
The Panthers fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but Adelphi knotted the game at two in the top of the second on four hits. Adelphi held the Rams scoreless in the bottom of the second, however that was the only frame that Philadelphia would put up a zero.
The Rams had 14 hits in the first game, while Adelphi collected 11.
Fortunes were reversed in game two as the Panthers got hot and hung 14 runs on 19 hits on the host Rams. Adam Kipling (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Brian Neal (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) pitched four innings apiece and gave up a total of six hits in the game.
Adelphi got doubles from Ricky Nicholson (Massapequa, N.Y.), Mike Connors (Babylon, N.Y.) and Robert Calca (Elmont, N.Y.) in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Philadelphia got one run back in the bottom of the first, but the Panthers exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth to put the game away.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, March 29 when they play host to visiting Caldwell College at 3:00 pm.
